Tesla Certified Home Car Charging Station Installation

Charging in a single-family home, usually in a garage or driveway, allows you to take advantage of lower, stable residential electricity rates.

The cost to run your car over the course of a year can be less than running an air conditioner. Simply pull into your normal parking spot, plug in, and you’ll wake up to a full charge every morning.

The Benefits of Having a Home EV Charger

There are plenty of advantages to installing an EV charging station in your home, including:

  • Convenient charging: An EV charging station allows you to charge your car when it’s convenient for your schedule. You can take advantage of charging during off-peak hours, which can reduce the cost.
  • Protects batteries: Residential EV charging stations will deliver a reliable, consistent electrical current, which helps protect your battery from damage.
  • Adds value to your home: Residential EV chargers are a highly desirable feature for eco-conscious home buyers.

Preparing for an EV Charging Station

Getting your home ready for EV charging starts with an electrical evaluation to determine the condition and capabilities of your existing electrical network. Our team will ensure your home has the appropriate electrical panel, wiring, and more to support EV charging safely.

When necessary, we can upgrade your electrical panel, install an electrical sub-panel, and perform other upgrades required to support your new charging station.

Once installed, our team will discuss common issues and proper maintenance so you can protect your EV charging station and vehicle from damage. Some common problems you may encounter are tripped circuit breakers, slow charging, inconsistent charging, error messages, and damaged touchscreens. We’ll go over these and more so that if an issue arises, you know exactly how to correct it.

We’ll also cover EV charging safety, which is essential for preventing injuries, fires, and damage to your vehicle. Common safety suggestions you’ll want to adopt with your system include:

  • Visually inspect the charging cable, and never use a damaged cable.
  • Strictly adhere to procedures and instructions established by the vehicle and EV charging station manufacturers.
  • Never use an extension cord to charge your vehicle.
  • Ensure EV charging cables and other equipment are properly stored and secured.
  • Actively protect the EV charging station from water damage.
  • Never attempt to modify or repair an EV charging station or your battery.

Cost To Charge an EV at Home In Cleveland

It costs around $13/kWH to charge an electric vehicle. If your car has a 66kWh battery, this translates to about $9 for a full charge. By comparison, it costs around $50 to fill up the tank on most gas-powered cars.

For most drivers who use their vehicle for short commutes or errands, it will cost around $32 a month to charge the vehicle. By comparison, a gas-powered car will cost around $200 per month to fill.

Of course, you have to consider the cost of the charging station.
Most Type II EV chargers run between $1,000 to $3,000. Thus, you can expect to recoup the cost within about a year. And, with estimated serviceable life spans of around 10 years, the long-term savings will start to add up quickly after your first year.

Understanding Different Types of EV Chargers

When it comes to residential charging, there are two types of EV charger stations to consider:

  • Level I: These use a 120-v AC plug that connects directly to your outlet. These charge at a rate of roughly 5 miles of range per charging hour and are ideal if you want to charge your vehicle overnight.
  • Level II: Level 2 EV chargers use a 240-v dedicated AC outlet. These charge at rates of between 10 to 60 miles of range per charging hour and require an electrician and upgraded panels to install and support.

Wondering which type of charger is best for your needs? Call Clover Electric at 440-424-4640 to discuss your options with our EV charging specialists or schedule an appointment.
